Mrs Yan Lan is partner of Gide Loyrette Nouel, and Chief Representative of its Beijing Representative Office. She is also Arbitrator of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and Foreign Trade Advisor for the French Government.

The specialty of Mrs Yan Lan is international commercial investment consultancy, and she is also specialized in the research in international arbitration.

Mrs Yan Lan has got a master’s degree in law in the Department of Law of Peking University, a doctorate in international law in the Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva, and had done research at the Law School of Harvard University, USA.

As a French lawyer, Mrs Yan Lan had been practicing law in Paris for eleven years, and in 1997 became the first non-French female partner of Gide Loyrette Nouel, the biggest French law firm.

Mrs Yan Lan’s law practice activities mainly involve assisting French or European large-sized or comprehensive enterprises by providing consultancy services and opinions with regard to their investment projects in China. To be specific, she has played a leading role in BOT projects for power plants and water plants, and has participated in the establishment of sino-foreign joint venture companies or enterprise reorganizations in numerous sectors including building materials, medicine, chemical industry, food, machinery, telecommunications, high-technology, energy resources, aviation supplies, retailing, environmental protection, banking and insurance, etc.

Furthermore, Mrs Yan Lan also assists Chinese companies to invest, establish companies, reorganize, apply for enforcement of arbitral awards and participation in litigations in Europe (especially France), and in particular, represents Chinese companies in anti-dumping proceeding held in the European Union. For example, when representing the Chinese producers together with the Brussels Branch of Gide Loyrette Nouel in the cairn anti-dumping case initiated by the European Union, she made a clean sweep, the case being closed with a conclusion of no injury. In addition, she has been involved in large projects concerning enterprise reorganization, merger and offshore listing, etc.

Together with experts from the GLN departments in charge of various legal fields, Mrs Yan Lan has provided many advices for the relevant Chinese authorities (such as the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and the State Planning Commission, etc.) in the formulation of laws, and has also done a lot of work in the introduction of information regarding the European continental law system.

From early 90’s till now, Mrs Yan Lan, upon invitation, has served as the investment consultant for the Tianjin Municipal Government, and has hence provided valuable opinions and recommendations for the Municipal Government in its investment invitation and efforts of improving investment environment.
