Jingzhou TAO???? Managing Partner, DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary?????????


Recognized as an expert in international trade, arbitration, and corporate work, Jingzhou Tao has advised on China-related matters since 1985, and has maintained an active practice in China for over twenty years.? He has advised numerous clients on international law matters, particularly on the legal, financial, tax, arbitration and commercial aspects of trade and investment.? He has represented over a dozen Fortune 500 companies and many major European, Japanese and American companies on their hundreds of investments in China, such as the establishment of equity joint ventures, contractual joint ventures and wholly foreign-owned enterprises, and in addition, their business and tax planning, strategic alliance, and intellectual property protection.? He acted as counsel, chief arbitrator or party-nominated arbitrator in substantial numbers of ICC and CIETAC arbitration proceedings such as letters of credit, construction projects, management contracts, joint ventures, agency agreements, international sales of goods, license agreements, etc. Mr. Tao also counsels numerous Chinese companies with their activities in foreign countries, especially in Europe, and also represents Chinese and foreign companies in their response to antidumping proceedings under the EU and Chinese antidumping laws.

Mr. Tao obtained his LLB from the Law School of Peking University and a Dipl?me d¡¯Etudes Approfondies (D.E.A.) from the University of Paris I. He was admitted to practice law in China and Paris in 1989 and 1992 respectively. Prior to joining DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary in October 2005, Mr. Tao was the Managing Partner of Coudert Brothers¡¯ China Practice.? He also worked with a major French firm in Paris from 1985 to 1991.?

Mr. Tao serves as Member of ICC International Court of Arbitration; Member of the Expert Consulting Committee of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission;? Chair of the Commission on International Commercial Arbitration of ICC China;? Adjunct Professor of Peking University Law School.

Mr. Tao is fluent in English, French and Mandarin, and he is the author of numerous articles in Chinese, English, and French on matters related to Chinese arbitration, foreign investment, foreign trade.? He has also written several books in English and French on Chinese law£¬ including Resolving Business Disputes in China, CCH Asia Pte Limited, Singapore, 2004, 800 pages (Loose leaf); Arbitration Law and Practice in China, Kluwer Law International, The Netherlands, 2004, 368 pages; Non-Tariff Trade Barriers in China (co-author), Sweet & Maxwell, Hong Kong, 2003, 357 pages; International Commercial Arbitration in Asia (China Chapter), Juris Press, New York, October 2002, 45 pages; International Execution against Judgement Debtors, "Enforcement of Foreign Judgement in the People's Republic of China", Oceana, New York, October 2002, 26 pages; Droit Chinois des Affaires, Economica, Paris, 1999, 394 pages ; Le Droit Chinois Contemporain, Collection "Que sais-je?", Presses Universites de France (P.U.F.), Paris, September 1991, 128 pages.
